Guitar legend Les Paul bought the solid body electric guitar to the music world and re shaped the essence of rock and roll. He can also be accredited with developing new recording studio concepts like multi tracking and electronic echo among others.
In 1934, Les Paul made his first guitar pickup from some radio headphone spares and by 1941 he had built his first prototype of a solid body electric guitar. Made from a 4' wood board with strings, pickup and plug, Paul christened it the "Log". To give it the appearance of an acoustic guitar he added 2 decorative panels, it also included a piece of rail road tie which was used for the base.
Les Paul made his 1st recording studio in 1945, it was in his garage in LA. It was here that he developed multi tracking, close miking and echo delay recording techniques. His right elbow got broken in a motoring accident in '48 and so he could continue to play guitar the surgeon set his elbow at such an angle that he was still able to play.
Electric guitars became popular nationally in 1950 when the Fender Telecaster was bought to the world. To counter this, the president of Gibson Guitar, Ted McCarty brought Les Paul into the company as a consultant so you could now find a Les Paul for sale in the shops.
Initially the collaboration between Gibson and Les Paul was conceived to develop 2 models by Les Paul for Sale.
